‘Sex always sells – we’re just the newest trade in the world’s oldest profession’

In the age of AI, Tabu is the start-up of everyone’s nightmares. Letting users explore their ‘deepest, sickest fantasies’ through artificially generated porn, nothing is off limits to those willing to pay. But when a string of scandals threatens to strike, junior lawyer Morgyn sneaks off to meet company founder Alister to confront what their product has unleashed upon the world. Themes of artificial intelligence, Big Tech, misogyny and abuse – political, sexual, bodily, digital form the backdrop to a tense, uncomfortable two-hander about the power we wield over one another, both person to person and more systemically, in an increasingly unequal world.

Pulp Theatre is thrilled to announce its second production, ‘Tabu’, written and directed by Zach Lonberg ( ★★★★★ Varsity, ‘The Back-Ups’), who is joined by Pulp Theatre founder Jaimee Doyle ( ★★★★★ London Pub Theatres & Based On Originals, ‘Tape’) as associate director and Lauren Herd ( ★★★★★ Edinburgh Fringe 2026, ‘Lizzy Sunshine’) as producer. Chronicling a fictional start-up specialising in AI pornography, we intend the piece to be a catalyst for greater dialogue on AI ethics (or the lack of) and the modern social contract we are all being forcibly entered into.
