Looking for a screen-free Saturday afternoon that will actually make your kids laugh out loud? Following a string of sold-out performances since April, Liverpool’s favourite “professional idiots” arebringing The Seriously Stupid Show back to Unity Theatre for two exciting autumn dates—Saturday, 17 October 2026 and Saturday, 21 November 2026 at 2pm.
Described as “Vic and Bob meets The Muppets” and designed for anyone aged 6 to 106, The Seriously Stupid Show is two hours of pure, unadulterated family joy. Created by an award-winning ensemble of theatre-makers—the minds behind the Rubbish Shakespeare Company, Silly History Boys and Liverpool Improv Festival—the show offers the ultimate antidote to formulaic children’s entertainment.
Packed with rapid-fire sketches, bizarre characters, puppets, circus antics and non-stop interactive comedy, there are no strict “sit-still-and-be-quiet” rules here; it is a high-octane party where big laughs and joining in are actively encouraged (within reason!). And while the kids are firmly at the heart of the action, there’s plenty here for grown-ups to enjoy too—so parents can sit back, relax and have a proper laugh alongside them.
More than just non-stop laughs, the show is designed to boost children’s confidence and emotional well-being. By framing “stupidness” as a positive superpower, the crew creates a welcoming, low-pressure space where making mistakes is celebrated. Trying new things, taking creative risks, and being silly helps kids build self-esteem and overcome the fear of failure in a supportive environment.
“We wanted to build the exact opposite of a stuffy theatre visit,” says performer and show co-creator Alice Rowbottom. “It’s two hours where parents can relax and enjoy themselves, while kids build genuine confidence by letting loose, laughing until their sides hurt, and exploring their own creativity without any judgement.”
No two shows are ever the same! The crew devises and debuts 100% brand-new sketches, characters, and routines every single month. To top it all off, the final 20 minutes turn the spotlight over to the audience for The Seriously Stupid Talent Show—a grand finale where brave young audience members step onto the stage to share in the ridiculousness, steal the show and give the cast a much-needed breather!
Big Production, Small Ticket Prices
Following months of packed-out performances, the show has officially secured the show has officially secured a National Lottery Project Grant from Arts Council England. This extra support allows the team to bring bigger props, madder gadgets, and richer production values to Unity’s stage, all while keeping ticket prices strictly affordable for local families at £8 Standard / £5 Concession.
The Seriously Stupid Show is designed so every child feels completely comfortable. Every performance offers step-free access, flexible seating, pre-show venue tours and adjusted lighting levels so neurodivergent children and families can enjoy the fun.
